Idols

And I went to F1 and of course to the concert. I heard this time the concert will be quite fun since Adam Lambert and Daughtry will be around and I don't mind watching them since I like Daughtry too.

It was a really fun night and yes, I jump around to the songs.

of fast cars..

This year is the last year of F1 Night Race in Singapore (not sure if they will continue the contract...) and for the past two years I've always hear the sounds. Yes. They are pretty loud even if you lived in a place quite a distance from the track.

So the last year of F1 I was thinking it will be nice if I can watch the actual race. And I did. Thanks to a very nice friend who gave me the ticket (you know who you are ^_____^ ). But me being a girl, I am not into cars. After a while they all look the same. But hey, I enjoyed the concert..

Fun in the Sun

Beach, resort, palm trees, sunrise.. All this can be found in Bintan. Yes not typical sunset, in Bintan Nirwana Resort, you can find sunrise.

The early day was worth it cause the sunrise was breath taking. So maybe if you go to Bintan, you might want to wake up early on one of the morning to see it.

Panorama??

Have you ever seen the three structure with somekind of a "ship" on top of it. Bet you know what is it. It is the Marina Bay Sands; the newly open hotel plus casino at Marina Bay, Singapore. Since it's opened, they have advertised this "sky park" which located on top of the hotel (ye, the weird looking "ship" on top of the three towers) and I thought maybe it will be a good idea to go there and shoot some picture of Singapore skyline. Too bad that time my friend told me that professional photography equipment is not allowed there. Well the fact that you have a camera with the size of a toaster doesn't help. Especially when you need to hide your camera to take picture in certain places.

Anyway I delayed going there for a while because of the camera thing and the entrance fee. It is not that cheap ($20 for the view, cause the restaurant was not opened yet). But in the end during a friend visit we went there to take a look. That time I had my DSLR with me. I don't care I will just try first since there are many tourist with DSLR too. Lucky the whole camera can go in but no tripod allowed. So, guess this is the best I can do with no tripod.

And by the way, the view is nicer in the evening and at night.

Not just passing by

Went to Botanical Garden last weekend for one of my assignment. And I happen to go to the Orchid Garden as well. Yes. Finally I went inside the Orchid Garden not just walk pass it like I usually do. It was surprisingly big. I always thought it is a very small place and it is a waste of money to go inside. Guess you have to see the inside first before making a judgement by seeing the small entrance.

Anyway, I took some pictures, the flowers are nice but that's it. Guess plants is not my cup of tea. Or maybe I was too concentrated on my assignment. Maybe should go there again another time. That time really to capture the flowers ^________^

Splash!!!

When I moved to Singapore I find this island is a very small place. There are shopping malls everywhere and honestly I don't really like to go to shopping malls. Normally if there is 'festival' be it Art Festival, Night Festival or River Festival (I know.. it is a lot of festivals for a small country), I will go and see the performances.

But lately I have been too busy, I miss the festivals and don't really go out and take pictures for fun. So this weekend, I figured maybe I should go to Singapore River Festival 2010. I have time anyway ^_____^

Being Religious Part III

Everytime I pass this church I always thought it looks very nice, maybe one day I should take picture of it. And finally after 2 years passing in front of it, I finally took some pictures. And not only that. I went inside and join the mass as well. St Teresa Church is indeed nice from the outside and the inside.

One day in the North East

A few weeks ago I went to Tampines to watch Chingay@Tampines. Unfortunately this is not the real Chingay parade. I was away when the real parade took place so I only manage to captured the "mini parade."

For those who doesn't know, Chingay is a street parade which held once a year during Chinese New Year period in Singapore. The parade features signature floats, acrobatic acts, lion and dragon dances and stilt walkers. The elaborate costumes make it interesting, not only to see but to take picture as well.

Last year I didn't manage to watch it since I didn't know there are such thing as Chingay. I intended to watch this year parade but again, failed. I didn't realise it was held on 20 Feb and that time I was away. So better than nothing, I went to watch the "mini parade" in Tampines.

I hope I can catch next year parade...

Being Religious Part II

What happen if a church has an Indian influence in its architecture? Looking like a church? Look like a Hindu temple?

Confused I decided to go to one. There is one church in Medan that has Indian architecture as an influence and my mom has told me to go there. At first I can't really picture how it look like. But after I went to the place, it is indeed look like a Hindu temple in a way. But the statues and the cross will assure you that it is indeed a church.

The Marian Shrine of Our Lady of Good Health or also known as Graha Maria Annai Velangkanni is a Catholic Church built in Medan and has an influence of Indo-Mogul style. The unique architecture stands out and you can see it even from the main road.

Finding the way to this place is quite frustrating if you don't know the area. After a big round and long way, we finally found the place (it is not that far actually, the direction that was given made us confused). It has a really nice architecture and interior as well, but since it is a place to worship. It is not appropriate to take pictures inside.

Being Religious Part I

Have you heard of The Church of our Lady of Assumption or Gereja Santa Maria Pelindung Diangkat Ke Surga. The first one maybe not. Second one, maybe....

When I was a kid my mom use to bring me to this church. For most Indonesian (I mean those who live in Jakarta), we called this church Gereja Katedral. The cathedral has a neo-gothic architecture which make it stands out from other modern churches in Jakarta.
More information about the church.

A place called Batavia

If you remember History class, you must know that in the olden days Jakarta was called Batavia. As you can see the architecture in Jakarta was influenced by the Dutch and nowadays you still can see the remaining especially in Kota Tua, North Jakarta.

Living in A Big City

In a big city like Jakarta want it or not you just fall and follow the lifestyle. During my last visit, I realised it is not cheap to live here (eventhough the income is very little). Lately a lot of people go and hangout in the "it" restaurant and cafe here. And since most of them also sell the ambience, the food doesn't come cheap eventhough they are not nice.

Out of curiosity, I went to some of these restaurant with my friends just to experience the place. And yes, they are not cheap..

Seggara
Located inside
Taman Impian Jaya Ancol. This place is at the furthest end of the beach (after the Dutch cemetery). It faces the sea and from the seat outside you can see some factories near Ancol - so you better see carefully before you choose where you sit.

The food itself is good. I tried the calamari and pizza (I forgot which one) and they were nice. I don't know if I was too hungry but from my cousins comments, they were nice.

The view around sunset was nice though the sunset is not directly infront of you. The down part is only the mozzies. They will come out when it gets dark so make sure you bring your mosquito repellent when you o to this place.

Le' Bridge
Located in the same complex like
Seggara, this restaurant is literally on the water. To reach the place you have to cross the bridge which is quite crowded in the evening.

I am not sure about the food since I didn't try it. I was just came across this place on my way to
Seggara. Maybe next time I should try it.
* to go to both Segarra and Le' Bridge you have to pass Ancol entrance. This will cost you another Rp13,000 per person and Rp13,000 per car besides the food.

Cafe Batavia
Located in Kota Tua, North Jakarta. This cafe has "oldie" interior. Guess its location which is in the old city of Jakarta inspired the feel. Though has a western feeling, the food is a mixture of western and asian food (which I find a bit weird).

There were lots of Caucasian came to this place to have lunch or just to have a cup of tea.

For me the food wasn't so great. It is just OK. But the ambience was nice. There were lots of pictures on its wall and somehow you feel like you go back in time to the very old days of Batavia.

Social House (SoHo)
Located in Grand Indonesia shopping mall, inside Harvey Nicholls to be exact. This place is always packed after office hour since it is strategically located in Jakarta's CBD. You can see a lot of businessmen and women here. Tough the food wasn't so great (I have tasted better lasagna), its location made it a place to hang out ofter work with your colleague or just to meet your friends who work in the area.

* the pictures for SoHo was taken using my iphone since the place was too dark and I don't have external flash yet.

Bibliotheque
I guess this place is more of a bar or lounge than a restaurant. I went with my friends here during lunch but I can say even or lunch the place was great. The ambience, the food, the location was great. The food worth what you pay for and I bet the place must be nice at night. Too bad I didn't have a chance to visit during the night time.

This library like bar is located at the ground level of Sampoerna Strategic Square which is also a very unique and beautiful building. From outside the bar look like a normal bar but once you step inside the interior is very unique. A friend of mine said there even some people mistaken it as a real library.

Even the seats look like a real "Europe-kind" of library seat and yes they are heavy.
